Boissevain, MB - Larry Maguire, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris announced the Government of Canada is providing $4,500 in funding through the Celebrate Canada program to the Municipality of Boissevain-Morton to organize Canada Day activities on July 1, 2015.
"Canada Day is a time to celebrate our past and present, while looking forward to our future. It's a celebration of what it truly means to be a Canadian," said Maguire. "Our Government is proud to support the Municipality of Boissevain-Morton and the Canada Day Committee in organizing this event."
It is expected Canada Day celebrations in Boissevain will be attended by 1,700 individuals from across the region.
Maguire said, "I also want to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers and the Municipality of Boissevain-Morton for once again organizing the community's Canada Day celebrations. Events like this could not be organized without the tireless work of countless volunteers who pour their heart and soul into our communities."
The Department of Canadian Heritage provides financial support for activities organized on specific days during the Celebrate Canada period from June 21 to July 1. In 2014, the Government of Canada invested in more than 1,600 projects and events across the country under the Celebrate Canada program.
"As Canadians we have a lot to be proud of. Despite the on-going instability that other countries face, our country continues to excel and lead on the world's stage," concluded Maguire. "Whether your family has lived here for generations or you're a new Canadian, we all value hard work and determination, we all know that we are stronger united than we are divided, and we all know that we owe this great country a debt of gratitude."
