Ottawa, ON?Larry Maguire, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris was pleased to join Canadians from coast to coast in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the national flag of Canada.
"The Canadian flag is an important part of our national identity and I was pleased to see so many Canadians partake in National Flag Day activities this past weekend," said Maguire.
On February 15, 2015, the National Flag of Canada turned 50 years old. Our flag was officially adopted 50 years ago and raised for the first time on Parliament Hill, across Canada, and at Canadian missions around the world.
Since 1965, the red and white maple leaf has been the most significant symbol of our identity and a source of inspiration and pride for us all. As we prepare for the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, celebrations like the 50th anniversary of the National Flag of Canada speak to what we have accomplished together, to the moments that have defined us, and to the promising future of this great country.
