Brandon- Larry Maguire, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris announced $13,000 through the Celebrate Canada program for the Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre for Canada Day activities. The funding will be used for the opening ceremonies, activities throughout the day and children's games and fireworks. There is expected to be 8,000 residents that will partake in the daylong celebration.
Maguire said, "The Government of Canada is pleased to partner with the Riverbank Discovery Centre and provide financial assistance to celebrate Canada Day. This will be an opportunity to come together with friends, family and the community at large. We are truly blessed to live in such a wonderful country."
Lois MacDonald, Manager of the Riverbank Discovery Centre said, "Funding through the Celebrate Canada program is integral to the delivery of a free, family day where Brandon's residents and visitors can show their Canadian pride and join together to celebrate the amazing country that we call home. This grant will assist our organization in hosting many of the favourite activities that people look forward to at the Riverbank Discovery Centre each year, as well as some new additions for 2014. One of the exciting new programs will be the Canada Day Living Flag, where people wearing red and white t-shirts are assembled into a giant, human flag. It's a perfect way for everyone to stand together, united as proud Canadians."
There will also be a reaffirmation citizenship ceremony held on Canada Day at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. This will be a formal event where participants repeat the oath of citizenship to express their commitment to Canada.
"I am excited to organize a reaffirmation citizenship ceremony for local residents. This is a great opportunity to celebrate our great nation. I encourage everyone to partake in this ceremony and together we can face the future with confidence and enthusiasm," said Maguire.
