You may have heard in the news how the Liberal’s have changed the Canada Summer Jobs program to include a new attestation that must be signed in order to be eligible for government funding.
This policy isn’t about the activities or services an organization is engaged in, the policy is about targeting the personal beliefs of the individuals who run those organizations.
The Canada Summer Jobs program has traditionally provided funding for non-profits to hire students during the summer so they can gain meaningful experience in the workplace. Because of this change introduced by the Liberals, many Westman non-profit groups will no longer be eligible as they cannot in good conscience sign this attestation.
With this new attestation, which is essentially a values test, every organization including churches and faith-based groups now must sign it. This also includes groups that provide assistance to the less fortunate as well as Bible camps and childcare providers. Even if an organization is not faith based, they are now being forced to sign. If they don’t, they will not be allowed to apply. This is wrong on so many levels.

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,
I call on the Government of Canada to remove the attestation requirement from the Canada Summer Jobs application. Canada’s freedoms of conscience, belief and opinion must be upheld. Canadians must be able to exercise their freedom of expression and religion.
