Today I submitted a petition to Canadian Blood Services with over 1700 names calling on them to reverse their decision to close the Brandon clinic.
I hoped to get 1,000 signatures from Westman residents to show how serious the region is about keeping the clinic open and much to my surprise, the petition garnered over 1,000 signatures in less than 24 hours. Between the online petition and those that have signed at my constituency office, the petition has now reached 1708 signatures. I am still encouraging those who want to keep the clinic open to contact the Canadian Blood Services directly at [email protected] and to CC my personal email account at [email protected]
This petition shows that Westman residents are serious about keeping our blood clinic open. There isn’t a day that goes by that someone hasn’t raised this issue with me. There is a large and active support base for the clinic to remain open and the mobile clinic to visit rural communities.”
Since the impending closure was announced, I have met with representatives from the Canadian Blood Services in my Parliamentary office to stress the need for the Brandon clinic to remain open and for rural mobile clinics to continue to be made available. In that meeting I reiterated my position that they should reverse their decision to permanently close the clinic and layoff the staff.
I will always stand up in Ottawa for issues that are important to Westman. I believe we must continue to advocate for the reversal of the decision on the blood clinic in Brandon and ensure that it remains open.
