OTTAWA - Larry Maguire, MP for Brandon-Souris applauded the policy framework for the New Building Canada Fund that was announced earlier today by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The New Building Canada Plan will be launched for April 1st, 2014.
The New Building Canada Plan commits approximately $1.2 billion in federal funding for infrastructure projects in Manitoba. This investment includes $467 million under the New Building Canada Fund and an estimated $713 million under the federal Gas Tax Fund.
The policy framework also outlined a Small Communities Fund that will provide $1 billion in funding for municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents.
"The Small Community Fund is something I have been actively pushing for since elected as a Member of Parliament. It will ensure that Brandon-Souris doesn't get drowned out by larger cities," said MP Maguire.
During the by-election, Larry Maguire outlined his list of priorities. Standing up for the unique challenges facing rural Canadians and making sure their concerns are not drowned out by the interests of larger vote-rich cities was a major plank of his list of priorities for Brandon-Souris.
MP Maguire said, "In the coming weeks I will directly communicate the details of the New Building Canada Fund with municipalities and work together with our community leaders to get projects moving in the right direction."
