RM of Elton and the Town of Deloraine Benefit from New Building Canada Plan's Small Communities Fund

Forrest, MB- Today, the governments of Canada and Manitoba announced that two southwest Manitoba communities will benefit from the New Building Canada Plan's Small Communities Fund.

The Small Communities Fund is part of the $10-billion Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component of the New Building Canada Fund. It will provide $1 billion for projects in municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents to build projects that deliver on local needs.

With this funding, the Rural Municipality of Elton will be able to expand its waterlines by adding approximately 70km of drinking water piping and more than 95 service connections, including to the Douglas Elementary School. Also, the Town of Deloraine will upgrade its water plant, including the installation of two membrane treatment trains, to increase the community's water treatment capacity.

These projects will help these small southwestern Manitoba communities improve their water infrastructure. When completed, the systems will better meet the needs of their residents today and into the future.

The two projects being announced today are among a number of projects announced recently across the province that will benefit from funding from the governments of Canada and Manitoba under the Small Communities Fund. Including the previously announced projects in the Interlake Region and in East St. Paul, the governments of Canada and Manitoba have jointly invested more than $8.6 million in funding each into 8 projects under this fund to date.
